Coat of Arms

Why Join?

Reasons To Think Big, Go Delta Sig!

1. Diversity. Delta Sig was founded in 1899 by Christian and Jewish men during a dominant segregating era. These values are carried on today by our members or different religions, race and personalities as well.

2. Fraternity of the Year. Our chapter took home UNC Charlotte’s most prestigious award several times over the years. This honor was accomplished by excelling in several areas of greek life. We always strive to excel in Social Life, GPA, Alumni Relations, Campus Involvement and Community Service, to name a few!

3. Leadership. Delta Sigma Phi’s national headquarters offers an all expense paid Leadership Institute which focuses on personal leadership, qualities, goals and values. Since the first LI in 1993, we have had a representative from our chapter almost every year.

4. Intramural Athletic Champions. Our chapter has won the Greek Intramural Athletic Championship 3 out of the last 4 years, making our statement as an athletic powerhouse on the Charlotte campus. We participate in all sports which consist of flag football, soccer, softball, basketball and many, many more!

5. NO DRUGS, NO HAZING. Delta Sigma Phi has a 0 tolerance policy for illegal drugs and the hazing of it’s members, and strict to stand by it.

6. There are over 900 Delta Sig alumni in Charlotte, NC alone! This state has one of the largest Delta Sigma Phi representation in the country, hosting alumni brothers from Duke, Chapel Hill, NC State, Wake Forest, Wilmington, ECU and Western Carolina. From top executives to business leaders all over our city, there is a pretty good chance you will be working with one of us in the future.

7. Need a job? Check out our Alumni Mentor Program that will be released this semester. Since we have such a big network of alumni in Charlotte, we try to make our members more marketable to our workforce. We have a broad range of alumni professionals who volunteer to help prepare our active members for interviews or even get to help get a foot in the door!

8. Do you like to party? Delta Sig won “Social Fraternity of the Year” in 2000-2001, 2002-2003, and 2003-2004. To be continued!

9. The “Sea of Green.” It is a tradition for us to wear our green letter shirts when we sit on the front row of the men’s basketball games. Since doing this, it is common for us to be seen on national television when we play big games.

10. Did you know: Delta Sigma Phi was featured sitting behind the men’s basketball team’s bench on an ESPN Classic when Charlotte beat #3 Cincinnati in 1999!

11. Anchors Aweigh! The Delta Sigs host their Sailor’s Ball (semi-formal) every fall semester. Some of the past weekend destinations included, Jekyll Island, GA, Buckhead (Atlanta), Gattlinburg, TN and Savannah, GA.

12. And yes, sometimes we sail, we have been on casino cruises in the past!

13. “We wrote the book on leadership.” This was a slogan that was adopted by our founding fathers. We continue this tradition by our members being involved in other organizations, from SGA to Business Fraternities.

14. Community Service. Delta Sigma Phi believes in giving back to the community for all that it does for us. We have taken part in Highway Cleanups, Easter Egg Hunts, Telethons and Christmas Donations. We have been awarded awards to our Annual Halloween Canned Food Drive from our campus and our national headquarters.

15. Like NASCAR? Our founding president, Marty Snider, is a pit reporter for NBC/TNT motorsports!

16. Attention ROTC! Some of our chapters best leaders are from both the Air Force and Army ROTC. Several of our brothers have had the honor of holding the position of Wing Commander in the A.F. ROTC.

17. Doing the whole “College Thing” right. In other words, we know how to party and have fun, and still keep our average above the all mans average.

18. “Talk to me Goose.” Upon graduation, our Air Force ROTC members go on to being commissioned as 2nd Lieutenants. In the last 3 years, we have had at least 1 member get commissioned per semester. 2 of them recently got into flight school.

19. Campus Diversity. We have brothers in a broad range of education majors. If you need help getting it done in the classroom, we have members that can help!

20. We’re looking for a few good men. Our last two Army ROTC students were commissioned over 2 years ago. One is now a lieutenant flying Blackhawk Helicopters and the other is serving in Iraq. After an Army ROTC drought, we are looking to refill there shoes…and so are they!

21. Not just a familiar face. Our chapter is not only well respected on our campus and in the community, we are also recognized on the national level as well by all of our accomplishments and our representation at national events.

22. Chivalry of man toward woman. Our members are very chivalrous and treat women with respect. We have been known to be gentlemen and possess good behavior no matter where we go.

23. Defending Freedom. Our members in the military are not only officers. We currently have an enlisted member in every branch of the military, stationed all over the world.

24. Nothing like a good mixer! We have mixers and socials with all of our universities beautiful sororities (and some from other colleges as well)!

25. Trick or Treat! We have donated tons of canned foods to the community through our Annual Halloween Canned Food Drive. Brothers come together to “trick or treat” for canned foods every Halloween.

26. Not the stereo typical fratboys. A common misconception for fraternity members are: partiers, skip class, they are alcoholics and use drugs, they haze their pledges and take disrespect women.

27. With hard work, comes big rewards! Delta Sig is a social fraternity and gets along with all the sororities on campus.

28. Miss your prom? Delta Sigs host their Carnation Ball (formal ball) every spring semester in Charlotte. This black tie affair has better dj’s, better awards, better dates and no chaperones…game on!

29. Good times. Being a part of this chapter will be some of the best times of your college life, we are always doing something fun or having a good time just hanging out.

30. Big Bro/Lil Bro Program. Each of the Delta Sig pledges is paired up with a brother to help guide them toward becoming a better student, brother and friend.

31. Challenging. Delta Sigma Phi helps develop leaders by teaching responsibility, teamwork, time management and professionalism.

32. Phratronamos is the name given to our Big/Lil retreat. It is where Delta Sig’s get together to play sports, camp out, play our version of capture the flag and tell all kinds of hilarious stories by the camp fire. The non-alcohol event has been known to be one our most memorable events!

33. Die hard fans. Delta Sig has to earn their front row basketball seats through signing in to other Charlotte athletic events. From women’s volleyball to men’s soccer…count on us to be there!

34. Full force! Delta Sig has been known to be heavily involved in everything they do. From IFC events to parties, count on us to be out in numbers!
