Pledging Delta Sigma Phi
Expectations
When pledging Delta Sig, we expect a lot out of our new members, therefore we designed a university
award winning pledge program. Rush week is only 5-7 days long, so in most cases we only have 5-7 days
to get to know each other, which is not a lot of time. So, with our 8 week long pledge process, we
spend the whole time getting to know our prospective members. We want our pledges to know what they
are capable and learn a lot as individuals along the way, a lot more than just a pin on a shirt. We
expect our prospective members to do as much as they can, to the best of their ability. None of our
pledges will be subjected to hazing, as we are a haze free organization.
Getting To Know You
Since Rush week is so short, it is almost impossible to have everybody meet everybody. In order to
have an effective fraternity we need to know each other. So, over the course of the pledge process,
pledges are required to get a given number of interviews per week, until all the brothers are
interviewed by all pledges. Although all of the active brothers must be interviewed, we encourage our
pledges to interview alumni and members from other chapters.
Behavior
Our pledges represent our fraternity, therefore we expect them to be on their best behavior
everywhere they go, and contain a sense of chivalry to all women. We do not settle for average, and
want to drive our members to be more than they know. All pledges must where the pledge pin at all
times, with the exception of intramural athletic events, on a tucked in collard shirt, never on a tee
shirt. We want to keep a more professional look about our pledges, so people can tell they are more
than just part of a fraternity.
Academics
In Delta Sigma Phi, academics are the most important priority. We know the only reason to attend a
university is to learn; therefore we drive our new members to make above average grades. We do this by
setting standards, such as attending IFC study halls (if available), providing brothers that excel in
a particular subject as tutors, doing grade checks with current classes and not initiating any pledges
that do not have a 2.25 semester GPA. If a member does not make the required 2.25 minimum, he is to be
held over until the he makes the requirement the following semester. Our pledges are expected to be
involved with as much campus and fraternity events as possible without interfering with their academics.
Leadership
We want to help our pledges develop their own leadership skills, and at the same time learn how and
what it takes to run a fraternity. Therefore, our pledge educators assist our new members to vote and
elect an executive board. This will help the pledge class to find out how to run a pledge class as a
small fraternity, as well as developing leaders among the class.
Organization
Our pledges are also required to host their own service project, fundraiser and pledge project.
Their service event and fundraiser can be as big as they want, and they may ask for the brotherhood to
participate, however both events must be planned and organized by the pledge class. The pledge project
can be anything they would like, just as long as it is creative, fraternity related and challenging.
This project builds teamwork among the pledges and shows their dedication.
